We are always looking for books full of great ideas… especially if they are related to winter builds. That’s why we were excited to get the LEGO Holiday Ideas book. We always love to see what other builders are coming up with for winter village scenes.

Description of the LEGO Holiday Ideas Book
The LEGO Holiday Ideas book is a hardcover with 80 pages, written and published by DK publishing.
Interestingly enough, it appears that Elizabeth Dowsett wrote the first version of this book, LEGO Christmas Ideas. It’s almost twice the price of the LEGO Holiday Ideas book on Amazon, but looks to be exactly the same… with just a swap of the wording. The “Christmas” version carries her name, but the “Holiday” version does not.
I wonder if the publisher was trying to attract all crowds who might be polarized by the words “holiday” or “Christmas”. For the record, we are in the “Christmas” camp, and we bought the book anyways.

What You Will Find in the LEGO Holiday Ideas Book
In the table of contents, the book lists over 50 holiday related builds. Below are photos of some of my favorite builds.
These decorated gift boxes are so cute! It’s similar to the LEGO Christmas Gift Box (40292) released in 2018 but these don’t have a build inside them. You can use them to actually gift something to someone!
If you notice, the bows are a bit in the fancy side, full of specialty parts. You can, of course, modify the bows for your own spin on them.
The Chimney Surprise build is so fun. I can see this sitting on someone’s mantel so they can pull it out to entertain any little kids with the sliding Santa.

Special Build Included
Finally, what will probably call most kids is this cute little reindeer build. The parts come with the book, along with instructions to create him. I would have loved it if they had given him a red nose. Who doesn’t love Rudolph?
Final Thoughts
Short and sweet? There are many great ideas in this book for building holiday related items. At the very least, it’s good for stirring the imagination.
Having said that, if the collection you’re working with consists of the standard LEGO Classic Creative Boxes, you will be disappointed. There are many builds in this book that require more specialty pieces than most people have in their brick collection.
Also, if you were expecting a book full of instructions, this, again, is not the book for you. Aside from the one set of instructions for building the reindeer, there are no other instructions in this book. You’ll have to use the photographs provided and your imagination to create your own version of the original idea.
However, if you buy the book just to get some ideas of what you can do for holiday builds, then you have the right idea. From the wreaths, to games, to mini monorails, this book has ideas for one and all. For that reason, we recommend this book!
